Hi, I'm Jessica LM Jenkins with We Who Thirst!

Friend, I am so glad you’re here.
Seeking to understand Jesus’ heart for His people (especially women and the neurodivergent)? Or buttress your internal theological scaffolding?
You’re in the right place!
I’m a neurodivergent Bible teacher who has her Masters of Divinity in Biblical Languages and a Master of Arts in Israel Studies.  I have been married for over a decade and have two adorable neurodivergent children.
We have walked through so many kinds of suffering and trauma, which spurs me on to teach in such a way that the hurting and marginalized feel seen by their Savior.

Welcome,

If you’re seeking to understand God’s heart in His word through the historical context of the Bible, you’ve found your place.

MISSION:

To make Biblical scholarship accessible for those seeking depth beneath the black and white letters on the page, answers for the why and how, and a strong theological foundation.

By blending Bible backgrounds, historical context, and archaeology you learn to more accurately understand your God, His Word, and the people of the Bible.  This holistic approach to theological education helps the Bible make sense in our modern day.

In a world where the church at times uses the Bible to inflict deep wounds, I’m here by your side to help you see and know and reclaim Jesus’ tender heart towards His children.

GOAL:

To equip you in the use of Scripture in order to fortify your voice with grace and wisdom. Together, we will build internal theological structures which can withstand and correct theological abuse.

Join We Who Thirst to craft your theological scaffold, shape fresh perspectives, and, alongside the Holy Spirit, reinforce your faith’s foundation.  Stand confidently in Jesus’ truth, ready always to defend the weak and weary.  Jesus offers you His steadfast-love and mercy in every season.

PROCESS:

We Who Thirst’s approach to Biblical interpretation considers the historical context of a passage alongside the Biblical languages and theology. Our goal is to communicate the message of the author including the historical, cultural, and familial context that a reader from today might otherwise miss.

The interpreted text is then communicated with a concern for trauma, neurodivergence, mental illness, and suffering.

How do we do this?

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

I grew up fundamentalists-adjacent and was homeschooled all the way through highschool.  After receiving at B.S. in Bible, I traveled to Israel for 9 months to learn the culture, language, geography, and history of the Jewish people and the Bible. A few years later I moved to Texas for seminary, where I met my husband, Kevin, in Greek class (of all places).

After graduating with a pair of Master of Divinity degrees, we adventured to Oregon for a couple years.  Then returned to Texas and make our lives in Austin. God graciously has given us two delightful bundles of energy who keep us on our toes and clinging to our Savior.

A few interesting facts about me:

-I don’t drink coffee, much to my coffee-adoring husband’s chagrin. (Though, I can down a mocha Frappuccino if necessary.)

-I love decaf tea. My collection of tea ware is inspired by my grandmother’s collection.

-Adventuring is my favorite.  Whether wandering a quaint town, or exploring a national park, I love to get out and see.

-I have practiced hairdressing, ballet, judo, figure-skating, harp, and rock-climbing though I am proficient at none of the above.

-I taught a Hebrew class for seminary-wives.

I passionately believe that our understanding (or lack thereof) of the historical context of Scripture will point us to or away from its truths.  We cannot understand God’s words to us if we do not understand the culture to which those words were given.

The historically accurate Bible paper dolls were created to give my children (and yours!) ethnically authentic, historically accurate Bible resources so bring Bible history to life.
