Motherhood Prayers
This is a collection of pre-written prayers for moments where words come slowly or your mind feel cloudy.
If you would like even more prayers, I recommend the Puritan Prayer book, Valley of Vision.
The Lord's Prayer for Moms
Taken from Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father, both mine and my babies, who is separate from the earth, yet present always,
May Your name be regarded as most holy among us,
May Your Gospel be real to my family,
May Your desires for our faith, beliefs, and actions come to be as much in this house as in Your Throne Room above.
Give my husband and me, today, our daily portion of rest and refreshment,
And forgive us our impatience, gracelessness, and grumpiness,
As we forgive those who cut us off in traffic or take the last multiple-kid cart at Target.
Do not guide us towards those things that will tempt us to find life apart from You,
But rescue us from our own selfishness.
Amen
Confession: For Seeking Life Apart from God
A meditation on James 1:14-15
Father, I confess my sin, I continually look for life apart from you. I think that if my children behave or I get enough alone time during the day, I will find life.
I confess that I serve an idol of comfort. Often my heart desires obedient children not because their obedience brings You glory, but because their obedience makes my life more comfortable. I don’t want to read my Bible because my task list or hobbies or entertainment has first place in my heart. I think if I can just reach this goal (in my work, house, or game) then I will find the life I’m looking for.
I come to You and humbly confess my idolatry and sinful expectations for those around me. I seek to be served and have my comfort guarded, rather than serving others.
I need You. Please show me Your abundant life and Your ever-present mercy. Thank you for Your bountiful forgiveness, and grace to unworthy hearts such as mine.
You, Lord, are beautiful. The author and the giver of life abundant. Help me to see, seek, and savor what You would offer, rather than what my flesh craves. Amen.
